Fire Destroys Home On Bailey Lane - August 2, 2008
A mobile home was destroyed by fire last weekend at 130 Bailey Lane, Northeast of Maynardville off Walker Ford Road.
Union County 911 Dispatch received the call around 8:10am on Saturday morning, August 2, 2008, with smoke coming from the home.
Units from the Northeast Union Volunteer Fire Department responded with assistance from Maynardville and Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Departments.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were coming from the roof of the home. According to reports from the scene, no one was injured or at home during the fire. The home was a rental home owned by Randy Morris.
The cause was believed to be electrical, and was under investigation at the time of this report.
Missing Man Turns Up Safe After Search By Rescue Teams - July 16, 2008
An 80-year-old man missing man was found by Union County Rescue teams after a nearly 6-hour search.
The missing person call came in to the Union County 911 Center around 6:45pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
According to reports, Robert Crabtree of 170 Crabtree Road came up missing from his residence, and family members were unable to locate him.
Emergency personnel from the Union County Rescue Squad, Sharps Chapel and Northeast Union Fire Departments, and Union County Sheriff's Department and EMS responded to the scene and began a search in the area around the home.
Crabtree Road is located in a secluded area of Union County near the Claiborne County line off Barker Road.
According to reports from the scene, Crabtree has medical conditions and suffers from dementia.
EMA Director Stacy Rhodes coordinated a search effort that included a helicopter and canine teams who assisted in the search.
According to Union County Dispatch, Crabtree was located around 12:20am in a field not very far from the home. He was transported by Union County EMS to an area hospital to be checked out, but was reported to be fine, other than just disoriented.
Home Destroyed by Fire on Circle Drive, Firefighters Respond Twice - July 16, 2008
A home located at 277 Circle Drive northeast of Maynardville was destroyed by fire on July 16th.
The first call came in at 1:12pm. Firefighters responded to the blaze, and then were sent back 3 hours later to find the house fully involved with flames, with a reported rekindle.
Fire units from Northeast Union, Paulette, Sharps Chapel and Maynardville Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene. The home reportedly belonged to the Johnson family. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, and no further information was available at the time of this report.
Firefighters Contain Another Forest Fire In Sharps Chapel - March 21, 2008
The Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Department was called out to another wild land fire recently.
Fire units were dispatched to Old Clear Creek Road on Friday afternoon, March 21, 2008 around 2:00pm. The fire was near the Chuck Swan Wildlife Management Area off Cox Road in Sharps Chapel.
According to fire reports, the fire started when the property owner had attempted to set some trash on fire near an old abandoned trailer on some property that was grown up with kudzu vines. The wind caught the fire and blew it into the trailer. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the fire had begun spreading into the woods.
Chief Upton of the Sharps Chapel VFD said the wind caught the fire and it ran up a hollow, then into a ridgeline. Upton called for assistance from the State Forestry Division.
Fire units were on the scene for several hours putting in fire lines to contain the blaze. According to the report, over 30 acres had burned before the fire was brought under control.
This is the second large forest fire in the Sharps Chapel area over the past month; the other was an estimated 10-acre fire in the Tanglewood area a couple of weeks prior.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was no immediate threat to any other homes.
Homeowners are urged and cautioned to call the State Forestry Office at 278-3348 in Union County for a free burn permit until May 15 of this year.
The permits are not issued if weather conditions are not favorable. Property owners who start a fire without a permit can be fined by State Law.
Firefighters Battle 10-Acre Wildfire In Sharps Chapel - March 12, 2008
Firefighters fought a wildfire that broke out in the Tanglewood area of Sharps Chapel.
The fire took place on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 around 7:57pm, when Union County Dispatchers began receiving calls.
Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Department units responded to the call at the 400 block of Parsons Shores in a heavily wooded area of the Tanglewood community.
Sharps Chapel units requested assistance from the Union County Rescue Squad and State Forestry.
According to firefighters on scene, the fire was close to a house and fire lines had to be cut to control the blaze.
Fire units protected the home and other structures that were in danger. The fire was believed to have started from a brush pile that was left unattended.
No injuries were reported from the blaze that reportedly burned approximately 10 acres of woodland before being brought under control.
Sharps Chapel Crash Claims Life Over Weekend - February 26, 2008
A one-vehicle crash killed a 45-year-old New Tazewell man this past weekend.
The accident took place on Sharps Chapel Road just past Dr. Davis Road in a curve. According to reports from the scene, the vehicle, a 1992 Dodge pickup truck, had run off the roadway and flipped over on its top in a pasture field.
The Driver, John "Johnny" Rouse, age 45, of New Tazewell, was pronounced dead on the scene by Union County EMS.
Units from Sharps Chapel Fire Department and Union County Rescue Squad responded to the call, which came into Union County 911 Center around 1:39am on Saturday morning, February 16, 2008.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol worked the accident. Rouse was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
Sharps Chapel Home Destroyed By Fire - February 3, 2008
During the early morning hours of Sunday, February 3, 2008, around 12:43am, Sharps Chapel firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire in a remote area of Sharps Chapel. The home was located at 192 Ellison Lane.
According to reports, the home was fully involved with flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. No one was at home when the fire started, and Union County 911 received the call from a motorist who noticed the glow.
Fire units contained and cooled down the blaze, but the home was a total loss.
Firefighters reported some loud explosions on the scene that were reported to be propane tanks in the basement.
The home belongs to Jim Rowe of Sharps Chapel.
The cause of the fire was under investigation at the time of this report.
