Local Volunteers Graduate From Basic Firefighter Class

Sixteen local volunteers from area fire departments graduated basic firefighter class on Saturday, January 20, 2007.

This group has been in basic firefighter class for the past few months, and most of them are planning to attend an advanced class for a weekend of training at the State Fire School later this spring.

Pictured are the newest firefighters from the recent class held in Union County.  SHARPS CHAPEL VFD:  Brandon Smith, Mason Simpson, Debbie Hammontree, Kevin Wenger and Kenny Crider;  NORTHEAST UNION VFD:  Scottie Atkins, David Dyer, LeAnn Cabage and Daniel Cabage;  MAYNARDVILLE VFD:  Brian Smith; PAULETTE VFD:  Derrick Rice, Keith West and Tabetha Ehlert; HEISKELL VFD:  Craig Shaver

As part of their training, this group participated in a live burn on Hickory Star Road in Maynardville.  Alder Springs Church donated an old 2-story house for the departments to train with.  The Church plans to build on the property.

Most of the local departments participated in the training, with around 40 firefighters present.  The Chiefs would like to thank the Church for allowing them to train with the house, and everyone who participated.
