Life is still long, long road to recovery

Doug Simpson was contacted recently and asked questions about his son, Quintin Simpson, who was injured in a vehicle accident while responding to a fire call last year.
He acknowledged that it has been a long, long road toward recovery but that Quintin is still 100% dependent.  Mr. Simpson said that his son is off a lot of medications now and is stable.  He is still in sort of a coma type stage but from time to time can give a thumbs up sign in acknowledgement when a question is asked.
Quintin is a resident in a North Georgia facility by the name of Jimmy Simpson Foundation at Rock Springs, GA.
Mr. Simpson said that he goes there as much as possible and still tries to work to raise money to live on.
He said when contacted recently that they were trying to make arrangements to bring Quintin home for a few days at Thanksgiving before having to take him back to the Georgia facility.
He said the community as well as the members of the Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Department where Quintin volunteered and Paulette Fire Department are really good about helping them out as much as they can.
Quintin was spending the night at the Paulette Fire Department as an Explorer Lt. of that station when on Sunday morning of March 28, 2004 at approximately 4:45 a.m., the Sharps Chapel VFD was paged out for a call.  He left the Paulette station to answer the call and his personal vehicle hit a rock wall not far from the Paulette Fire Department.
It was the Paulette Fire Department that was paged out as well as Union County Rescue Squad to do the extrication of Quintin.  He was airlifted to UT Knoxville Hospital at that time.  Their county's newspaper, The Union News Leader, said Quintin at the time had just recently passed a First Responder Course of which he was very proud.  The Union News Leader paper said in an earlier article, sometimes when you enjoy the work that you do, it really gets in your blood, so is the case of young firefighter Quintin Simpson, who was 19 at the time of his accident.
His dad said the support they have received is a big help in dealing with the accident.
If you would like to make a donation to help the family out with expenses, you may make the check out to Doug Simpson and mail it to him at PO Box 164, Sharps Chapel, TN 37866.
This Holiday Season, remember both Quintin and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
