The 2007 Annual Veterans Day ceremony was held on November 12th at 11:00am at the Union County Courthouse, directed by VFW Commander Bill Rollins.

This day is set aside to honor those who fought so bravely so that we may enjoy the freedom that we have.

The guest speaker was Russell Biven from WBIR Channel 10's Live At Five.  Although the crowd in attendance was small, Mr. Biven included in his speech that Union County's participation in the current and previous wars was not.  Upon doing his research before the Memorial Day Ceremony, at which he also spoke, he found that a great number of Union Countians are Veterans.  It's an honor and a privilege to have Mr. Biven join us on this day and show such an interest in our county.

As the ceremony at the Courthouse came to a close, the group walked in parade fashion behind police escorts, fire trucks, rescue trucks and ambulances down Main Street to a second memorial located at Maynardville Elementary School.  Mr. Rollins stated that this is the first time in his memory that a parade has taken place on Veterans Day.  Several members of the crowd had expressed an interest in making the walk, as it is a tradition on Memorial Day.

Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Department always participates in the ceremonies both on Veterans Day and Memorial Day.  We would like to encourage the community to attend these events.  Show your support and honor for those who have served this country so selflessly.
