The SCVFD Explorers Participate In Explorer Blast 2008 Competition

The Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Department Explorers (Junior Firefighters) traveled to Lawrenceville, Georgia (just below Atlanta) to take part in the Explorer Blast 2008 Competition.

The group and their advisors left on Friday, April 18 and returned on Sunday, April 20, 2008.  The Sharps Chapel team was the only group from Tennessee to make the trip to Georgia for the event.

The team returned with three (3) First Place awards and two (2) Third Place awards.

The team earned First Place in the Fire Hose Relay, Bucket Brigade and Tug-of-War events.  They brought home Third Place awards in Tool Identification and Building-a-Water-Chute events.  The team also participated in several other events, as well.

Sharps Chapel VFD Firefighters and Explorer Post Advisors Chris Upton, Kevin Brantley, Darrell Morris, and Michele Morris accompanied the team on this year’s trip, and already look forward to next year’s events.

The following SCVFD Explorers attended and participated:  Brandon Collins, Adam Brantley, Jason Morris, Jessica Graves, Justin Cox and Keaton Lester.  Junior Firefighter Jacob Morris also attended the trip.

Chief Upton and all of the members had a great time and enjoyed the trip and competition.  Chief Upton said he was very proud of the young firefighters, and said we were proud to represent Tennessee at this event.  Sharps Chapel Explorers were the only volunteer department at the competition.  All other teams were from paid departments.  This is a great achievement, and we would like to congratulate them for bringing home so many awards.
