On Monday, May 26, 2008, a ceremony was held at the Union County Courthouse to honor all Veterans and members of our armed services.
VFW Commander Bill Rollins opened the ceremony and Mr. Burney Hutchison led everyone in a word of prayer.  Speakers included Senator Micheal Williams, Ms. Ollie Ellison, and Mr. John Becker from WBIR Channel 10.
The Union County Honor Guard was dressed out and participated in the ceremony.
Members from all Union County Fire Departments, Rescue Squad, and EMS were present, as well as the Union County Sheriff's Department and the Maynardville City Police Department.
A nice sized crowd came out on this beautiful day to honor those who so selflessly have defended our country.  This annual ceremony included a walk to the monument that is located on Main Street at the Maynardville Elementary School playground.
