2009 Fund Drive
Residents who live in the Sharps Chapel area will soon be receiving a 2009 Fund
Drive Brochure in their mail. The Sharps Chapel Volunteer Fire Department
does this yearly mail-out to update citizens on what the Fire Department is
doing, and to help keep the Department budget built up.
The SCVFD is an all-volunteer organization. We provide fire protection and rescue services to approximately 3,000 residents, and or community is growing each year. We currently have about 30 active members who attend training sessions, meetings, community activities and respond to emergency calls within our area. We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Community Involvement: SCVFD provides free smoke detectors to residents in the community. We also have a Fire Prevention at Sharps Chapel Elementary School each year, as well as conduct periodic fire drills at the school. We support the Union County Red Cross in their effort to help members in the community at their time of need.
In 2008, we responded to 161 calls, but as this area continues to grow, we have noticed our call volume grow as well.
We receive funding from the county which helps cover vehicle
insurance and liability insurance. The remainder of our budget is funded
by the contributions we receive from the community. The funds are used to
pay for fuel, maintenance, training, equipment, utilities, and a loan payment
that we must pay each year. We operate on a yearly budget of approximately
$45,000.00. The County contributes $15,000.00.
Chief Upton and all of the Sharps Chapel VFD members would like to thank the
community for their continued support.
If you are able to send a contribution of any amount to us for this 2009 Annual
Fund Drive, it will be greatly appreciated, and may be mailed to:
